Among Claremont’s best tourist attractions is the Bunker Hill Covered Bridge. As one of two remaining covered bridges in North Carolina, the bridge has been designated a National Civil Engineering Landmark since 2001. It was originally built in 1894 by Andy L. Ramsour, and the road it’s built on played a historical role during both the Civil War and American Revolution. Unfortunately, the bridge has been abused by vandals and covered in graffiti. However, it remains structurally intact and a sight to see. The short walking trail is surrounded by a forest of trees and is popular among dog owners. Visitors can also enjoy lunch at one of several picnic tables.
