Hedrick Grove, North Carolina

Hedrick Grove, NC

Although it may not be known to many outside the local area, Hedrick Grove is a proud community in North Carolina’s beautiful Piedmont area. With amazing barbecue, beautiful scenery, and kind neighbors nearby, there’s plenty to love in the region.

Hedrick Grove has plenty of history to celebrate as well. The Hedrick’s Grove Reformed Church is on the National Register of Historic Places, preserving the splendor of its Romanesque Revival architecture, popular in the late 1800s. The building itself, with impressive brick columns and a stone wall bordering the property, was built in 1922 and included an education building added in the early 1960s and a cemetery from the late 19th century. Even for those not interested in entering the church, the property is still a sight to behold.

If you’re looking for something fun, there’s no shortage of activities. Just a few minutes away in Lexington, you can visit Elevated Wake Park. Book private wakeboarding lessons or go for packages ranging from two-hour sessions to an all-day experience. If you feel like being a repeat visitor, you can purchase passes for the entire season or for the year. Elevated also hosts summer camps each year. If you’re hoping to get out on the water but wakeboarding isn’t for you, Elevated also has an aquapark with slides, obstacles, ladders, and more.

If that isn’t your cup of tea, you may prefer Claybreakers skeet shooting and shotgun range. Claybreakers is a family-owned and operated facility that offers a 5-stand course, a 14-station sporting clays, eleven trap machines and Wobble Trap. They also offer catering for events and gift cards for individuals who are difficult to shop for. Claybreakers is dedicated to encouraging youth to learn to shoot safely and believes that the youth are the future of shooting sports. Claybreakers is an ideal location for individuals new to the sport or competitive shooters looking to enhance their shooting skills and for events such as birthday parties, bachelor parties, church outings, and company events.

After a day of shooting, there are plenty of restaurants in the area to satisfy your hunger. If you’re a barbecue fan, head to Lexington and stop by Randy’s Restaurant for quality meat with sides like hush puppies and waffle fries. That joint has southern-style breakfast, too, with a loaded menu, from omelets and hashbrowns to pancakes and French toast, to livermush and smoked sausage. If you want something more upscale, head over to The Humble Plate. Their cuisine is made with locally-sourced ingredients, and their menu changes daily based on what’s available. Some highlights from previous menus have included double crunch honey garlic chicken, Cajun steak bites, and strawberry walnut salad. Customers also rave about their variety of flavored teas.
