Kannapolis, North Carolina is a booming city of 45,000 located in the Charlotte metro area in Cabarrus and Rowan Counties. Kannapolis was founded in 1906 as a critical part of North Carolina’s textile industry. Located in the heart of North Carolina motorsports country, Kannapolis is the hometown of the racing Earnhardt family. Kannapolis is home to the Curb Motorsports Museum, owned by world-famous music producer Mike Curb. Among several NASCAR and Indy race cars, the museum includes the car Dale Earnhardt drove to his first NASCAR Winston Cup Championship and Richard Petty’s Number 43 car he drove to his 199th Winston Cup race win. Dale Earnhardt fans from around the world visit the Plaza Tribute and Dale Earnhardt Tribute Center in the Cannon Village Visitors Center. The Plaza Tribute and Center includes a 9-foot bronze statue of Dale Earnhardt and a number of large murals and other artwork dedicated to Earnhardt’s racing career and life in Kannapolis. You will also find Stewart-Haas Racing, co-owned by racing legend Tony “Smoke” Stewart in Kannapolis. The team has multiple cars in several NASCAR racing series and operates a 200,000 square foot facility in the city that you can visit.
