In 1922, Thomasville Furniture set the standard for "go big or go home" for generations to come when they built the largest Duncan Phyfe armchair in the world. Originally made from wood, the chair stands 30 feet tall and has a ten-foot by a ten-foot square seat. In 1951, the chair was rebuilt out of concrete and steel and set on a granite base and has since been used by beauty queens, mayors, and governors. Lyndon Johnson sat in the chair during his campaign for Vice President in 1960. Bigger chairs have since been built, but Thomasville residents hold true to their version of the "World's Largest Chair."

Following the big tradition is the Thomasville Emporium Antique Mall. There are 18,000 square feet of odd shops, handmade goods, collectibles, and of course, antiques.
