Westcliff, North Carolina

Westcliff, NC

The hamlet of Westcliff is located in the Township of Franklin in Rowan County, North Carolina. It’s small, rural, quiet, and the perfect place to call home if the tranquility of country life calls to you. Westcliff may seem isolated, but it has company. The area is dotted with many other neighboring towns, including Salisbury, Spencer, and Granite Quarry, to name a few. In truth, North Carolina is a veritable sea of charming little neighborhoods begging to be explored, each with exciting quirks and attractions. And when you live in Westcliff, these places are right outside your door.

The Rowan Museum in Salisbury is a wonderful place to learn more about the region’s storied history, from the earliest days to modern times. Even the building itself, an 1856 courthouse, is an incredible example of early 20th-century architecture. If historic sites intrigue you, also tour the Dr. Josephus Hall House. This museum was originally a school for women in the early 1800s but soon became a grand Southern residence. It is so well preserved that you’ll feel like you journeyed back when you stepped through the door. And when you want to indulge your kids or inner child, head to the NC Museum of Dolls, Toys, and Miniatures.

For some outdoor fun, don’t miss River Park at Cooleemee Falls. It’s a great place to swim and fish with scenery that can’t be beaten, and you can bring Fido, too. And for more water activities and hiking, trek over to Dan Nicholas Park. It’s a gorgeous, family-friendly spot with a nice playground and wonderful camping sites, too.

If you like to shop, you’ll love the abundance of specialty shops, antique stores, and arts & crafts galleries throughout the Westcliff area. Visit Caniche, a specialty women’s boutique with a delightful variety of one-of-a-kind gifts. Meanwhile, Collectivity - The Comic Shoppe has (you guessed it) comics, coins, action figures, and much more. And the Salisbury Emporium is a must-see antique store with more than a little something to satisfy everyone.

Speaking of satisfaction, you cannot tour Westcliff and its surrounding neighborhoods without partaking in the phenomenal food. Forget the same old boring chain restaurants. There’s nothing like authentic local cooking; you’ll find plenty of it here. For outstanding BBQ, it’s the Smoke Pit. Try Ivan’s Restaurant, an iconic favorite for decades with a quirky taxidermy decor for the perfect steak. For the next best thing to your grandmother’s kitchen, head to Hap’s Grill. And we cannot tell a lie. The Italian classics at Pinocchio’s are pretty great as well.

Here’s another truth for you, this one more troublesome. It’s not just people that enjoy the authentic local cooking around Westcliff, unfortunately.
