Fisher Town

Fisher Town, North Carolina

Fisher Town, NC

The Charlotte metro area is one of the most vibrant regions of North Carolina, but you cannot attribute its allure to just one city alone. It’s the sum of its parts, a vast conglomeration of larger cities, tiny rural villages, suburban towns, and countless neighborhoods, many of which have unique identities. One such notable neighborhood is Fisher Town.

Fisher Town is a part of the suburban town of Kannapolis in Cabarrus County. Like many neighborhoods in the area, it’s a friendly, hard-working place with a mix of both white-collar and blue-collar citizens. Yet Fisher Town is also special in many ways. It’s newer than many nearby neighborhoods, with most of its real estate developed after 1970. It’s a bit more affluent than most of Kannapolis. Fisher Town also has a unique ethnic diversity, as it has more people of Jamaican and Welsh ancestry than virtually any other neighborhood in the country.

And another unique trait, more people work from home here than just about anywhere else, nearly 30%. However, that doesn’t mean that residents are staying home. Fisher Town is also filled with car enthusiasts. Residents own more cars than surrounding neighborhoods; 34% have four, five, or more vehicles. But that’s understandable, isn’t it? After all, the Charlotte metro area is NASCAR country, and racing is big business and entertainment here. Frankly, it’s hard not to love something as exciting as racing, especially when it’s practically happening on your doorstep.

So, what other exciting attractions are just beyond your doorstep?

Grab the kids and head to Village Park, a terrific amusement park with train rides, an incredible antique carousel, picnic grounds, and much more. This park is a beloved local favorite with concerts, Friday-night movies, and a busy schedule of community events.

Take the Dale Trail. It’s a hiking trail and self-guided tour that pays tribute to the legendary Dale Earnhardt Sr. and the many spots he loved in Kannapolis, his hometown.

It can’t always be about spinning wheels, though, folks. How about spinning some records? Kannapolis is the birthplace of funk and George Clinton. Don’t miss the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame.

Or perhaps you’d like to hear something spooky? The Charlotte metro area is known for its hauntings. Pay a virtual visit to the Ghosts of America website; they’ve got lots of ghost stories to spin and a great guide that might inspire you to do some ghostbusting of your own. Who knows, perhaps you might even want to join Kannapolis’s own Paranormal Research Society.

Even if all you’ve scared up is an appetite, the area has plenty of exceptional choices when you are ready to fill your tank. The Smoke Pit is the place to make a pitstop for great barbecue. Meanwhile, the Flyin’ Buffalo’s famous chicken wings are practically flying out the door. You’ll find mouth-watering Mexican specialties at El Amigo and traditional Jamaican dishes at Irie Vibes in North Charlotte. No matter what you’re craving, you’ll find plenty of fun spots with grub as special as Fisher Town.

However, there’s something that is very ordinary about Fisher Town, and it’s no fun. Pest issues are common here and an ongoing problem for its homeowners.
